A Story About Being Autistic

The true abolition of slavery was achieved when the Thirteenth Amendment was ratified on December 6, 1865. The first section of the Amendment declares: “Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.” The Amendment is unique in the Constitution because it bars every person from holding slaves or engaging in other forms of involuntary servitude, whereas most constitutional provisions only constrain or regulate the government. It is unique in another way as well: although the Constitution obliquely acknowledged and accommodated slavery in its original text, the Thirteenth Amendment was the first explicit mention of slavery in the Constitution. The most immediate impact of the Thirteenth Amendment was to end chattel slavery as it was practiced in the southern United States.

Page 2: Meeting the animals At the farm, Uncle Peter was waiting for them at the gate. ‘Hello, Juliet, are you ready for a new adventure?’ - he asked. Juliet quickly ran to the paddock where her new friends were waiting: Milka the cow, Windy the horse, Clucky the chicken and a little piglet called Snuffle. All the animals were very friendly. ‘Oh, this little piggy is so funny!’ - Juliet laughed. Page 3: The little helper Uncle Peter asked Juliet to help him with the chores. ‘Do you want to feed the chickens?’ he asked. ‘Sure!’ Juliet replied. She took a bucket of grain and began to feed the chickens. They clucked happily, and the little yellow chicks ran after their mother. Juliet was happy to watch them. Juliet enjoyed watching them and felt like a real farmer. Page 4: Riding a horse After lunch, Uncle Peter invited Juliet to ride his horse, Windy. ‘I've always wanted to do that!’ - Juliet said. She climbed on Windy's back and the horse began to trot gently across the green field. Juliet held on to his mane and laughed with delight as the wind blew her hair. Story Outline: • Introduction: In a dense forest, there lived a clever wolf named Wylie. Wylie was known for his quick thinking and sharp instincts. One day, while walking through the woods, Wylie met Max, a playful and curious monkey who loved swinging from tree to tree. The two animals became fast friends, despite being very different. • Middle: One day, while exploring the forest together, they stumbled upon a huge fruit tree. The tree had the juiciest, most delicious fruits hanging high up in the branches. Max, with his nimble skills, could easily swing to the top and pick the fruits, but he was afraid of the tall branches. Wylie, being much stronger, knew that he couldn’t climb like Max, but he had an idea. • The Clever Plan: Wylie used his clever mind to come up with a plan. He encouraged Max to climb the tree while he gathered some vines. Wylie used the vines to create a sturdy rope, which Max could tie around the branches to make climbing safer and easier. Together, they shared the fruits and celebrated their teamwork. • Resolution: The adventure taught them an important lesson: while they each had their own strengths, they were much stronger when they worked together. From that day on, Wylie and Max continued to share many more adventures in the forest, always helping each other out. • Moral: “Working together with friends makes everything easier and more fun.” Illustration Ideas: • Wylie, the wolf, could be shown with a mischievous glint in his eye as he comes up with his clever plan. • Max could be illustrated swinging playfully through the trees, showing his agility. • The big fruit tree could be a focal point, with colorful fruits hanging high, and both friends working together.
